WAEC Releases 2024 WASSCE Results for Private Candidates

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the results for the 2024 Second Series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates. 

Key Highlights

  • 34,878 candidates (54%) obtained credit passes in five subjects, including English and mathematics. 
  • 43,923 candidates (68%) obtained credit passes in five subjects with or without English and mathematics. 
  • 65,023 candidates sat for the exam, comprising 31,504 males (48%) and 33,519 females (52%). 
  • 62,354 candidates (96%) had their results fully processed and released, while 2,669 candidates (4%) have some subjects still being processed due to errors. 
  • 2,577 results (3.96%) were withheld over allegations of exam malpractice. 

Exam Structure and Marking Process

For the first time, the exam was conducted in two modes: 

  • Paper-and-Pen Option 
  • Computer-Based Hybrid Mode

The examination took place between October 23 and December 20, 2024, at 5,067 centers across Nigeria. 157 candidates with special needs were also registered. 

Marking Process  

  • Conducted at five venues in Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, and Kaduna. 
  • Took place from January 15 to February 4, 2025. 
  • 3,327 examiners participated.
