About the Fellowship
The Rowland Fellowship supports early-career scientists and engineers to conduct independent, high-impact experimental research in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.Founded in 1980 by Edwin Land, this program now operates under the Rowland Institute at Harvard and aims to cultivate fearless innovators who challenge traditional research boundaries.
Fellowship Highlights

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the Rowland Fellowships 2026, you must:
- Be passionate about experimental science or engineering
- Be a PhD holder or expect to complete your PhD by the start date (no earlier than May 1, 2024)
- Propose experimental research (fields: physics, biology, chemistry, neuroscience, engineering, etc.)
- Apply from any accredited international or U.S. institution
- Not propose clinical or human subject research
- Be eligible for a U.S. visa (support is provided if needed)

- Application Deadline: August 15, 2025 (11:59 PM EDT)
- Recommendation Letters Due: August 29, 2025
- Eligibility Decisions: Mid-September 2025
- Zoom Interviews: By mid-October 2025
- Finalist Symposium (On-site): November 13–14, 2025
- Final Decisions Announced: Early December 2025
How to Apply
- Applications must be submitted by August 15, 2025 (11:59 PM EDT);
- Letters of recommendation must be submitted by August 29, 2025;
- Eligibility results must be submitted by mid-September 2025;
- Zoom interviews must be completed by mid-October 2025;
- Finalist symposium and interviews must be held on November 13–14, 2025;
- Final selections must be made by early December 2025.
- Those chosen as finalists will interact with admissions committee members, current fellows, and staff during a two-day visit.
