Below are the simplest procedures for any student to obtain his/her National Identification Number (NIN). Registration for 2025 JAMB's UTME will only be possible for candidates who have registered and obtained their NINs. The importance of getting your NIN now cannot be overemphasized, as it may lead to the inability of a student to complete certain important tasks in schools or NYSC shortly, hence the need to obtain it now and relax.
Given this, we deem it necessary to provide all students and prospective UTME candidates with the guidelines to register and obtain their NIN before the 2025 UTME registration begins, as the registration is expected to commence soon. 2025 UTME Candidates are equally advised to start preparing for their exams using the JAMB CBT mobile app and JAMB CBT computer software
Meanwhile, the creation of profile codes for 2025 UTME registration has begun. Prospective 2025 UTME candidates can create their profile codes now.
NIN simply means National Identification Number. It consists of 11 non-intelligible numbers randomly chosen and assigned to an individual after the completion of enrollment into the National Identity Database.
Once an NIN is assigned to an individual, it can never be reassigned, given, or used by another person, which makes it unique. In the case of the demise of an individual, his/her NIN is retired once a death certificate is presented to the Commission and the individual’s death is established.
The NIN is used to tie all records about an individual in the database and is also used to establish or verify his/her identity. All citizens and legal residents in Nigeria, from age zero (birth) and above, are eligible to enroll for their NINs.
The first step before you proceed to register to get your NIN is to check if you already have one. To know this, with the phone used to register for the NIN, dial *346# on your phone to retrieve your NIN. Once your NIN is displayed, you can either screenshot it or note it down somewhere. Please note that you're not to share your NIN information on any social media platform. You can, however, share it when requested by trusted institutions. Getting your NIN by dialing *346# is FREE OF CHARGE on all Nigerian mobile networks, including MTN, AIRTEL, GLO, and 9mobile.
