Prison Officer – HMP Bedford (Visa Sponsorship Available)

Responsibilities

Eligibility

To apply, you must:

  •  Be at least 18 years old at the time of employment.
  •  Meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements.
  •  Pass a medical and fitness assessment, including eyesight and hearing standards.
  •  Have no offensive, violent, or intimidating tattoos (facial tattoos generally not accepted except for cultural, religious, or medical reasons).
  •  Have lived in the UK for the past 3 years if applying for a high-security prison role.
  •  Have the right to work in the UK without reliance on new sponsorship.

 Salary and Working Hours

  •  37 hours/week: £34,448  
  •  39 hours/week: £36,494  
  •  41 hours/week: £38,541  
  • Includes allowances for Bedford location. Shift patterns include evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.

 Assessment Process

  1. Online Tests: Basic judgement and numerical skills, task-based behaviour assessment.
  2. Online Assessment Centre: Tests communication, decision-making, quality management, and care competencies.
  3. Submission of CV/Resume and Cover Letter.

 

Travel Consideration

Some prison locations are in rural areas with limited public transport. While driving is not essential, own transport is recommended for reliability.
