United Nations Nippon Foundation Fellowship 2026 - Fully Funded

The United Nations Nippon Foundation Fellowship 2026 is now open for applications, offering a fully funded 9-month program designed to empower mid-level professionals from developing countries working in ocean affairs and maritime law.

Program Structure

  • Phase 1 (March–June 2026):
    Advanced training at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, hosted by DOALOS (Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea).

  • Phase 2 (July–December 2026):
    Six-month research placement at one of 32 prestigious host institutions worldwide, including Columbia University, University of Rhode Island, Dalhousie University, and the University of Wollongong.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age between 25 and 40 years
  • Must hold a university degree and demonstrate research capability
  • Be a mid-level professional from a government or non-government agency in a developing country
  • Work must relate directly to maritime affairs, law of the sea, or marine policy
  • Must be available for the full 9-month program
  • Nomination and recommendation form required from a government official
